After quitting my job, I decided to take up cake decorating (and blogging). I made a pact to myself that 2009 was going to be a good year and I was going to do everything and anything that made me happy. Come along for the ride!

Day 1 With Colette Peters

Great news....today I made it to school 30 minutes early (no jump starting, no missing exits). Woo Hoo!!! :o)

Well, I got my old seat back...good o'l SEAT #15.

I have a partner this time...but I just know we're going to have a blast. *big smile*

We clicked instantaneously because we have a friend in common...talk about a SMALL WORLD!!

She currently lives in Seattle but is originally from Indonesia....just like my other friend Amanda from the pulled sugar class. When she said she knew Amanda, I was SUPER excited!! At that moment, we became gushing 8th grade girls with so much to talk about. I see a beautiful friendship about to blossom. *tearing up* :o) I didn't get a picture of her today but she will not escape my lens tomorrow. *evil laugh*

As for the class itself...hmmm....

First, let me give you a brief background on Colette Peters:

Colette Peters has been the owner of Colette’s Cakes, a specialty cake company in New York City, in 1989. Since she was 8 years old, living in Chicago, she made cakes and experimented in the kitchen. Her first love, though, was painting, and after earning a bachelor’s degree in painting, moved to New York to earn her Master’s degree in painting from Pratt Institute. She then worked as a designer for Tiffany & Company for 8 years. While at Tiffany & Co. she made cakes for her co-workers, and was then asked to design cakes for the books Tiffany Taste and The Tiffany Wedding. This exposure led to a contract to write a book of her own.

Back to what I think of this class...hmmm...

After last week's gruling workout with Nicholas Lodge, I thought I wanted a more laid back class. Well, laid back is what I wanted, laid back is what I got. I think it's a great change, but now I've learned something about myself...

I DON'T LIKE laid back. *pouting* I want to be pushed for excellence. I want someone to shun my work because they know it could be done better. Maybe at the time I don't actually like the feeling or can't appreciate it, but after it's all said and done, I'm proud of my accomplishments because I was pushed to better myself.

Maybe Colette won't be that teacher to push me, so I'll have to push myself...but what I do know is that she will help me to exercise my creative juice which evaporated from years of staring at Excel spreadsheets. :o)

Because of this awareness, I know I will benefit from her great teachings and truly be inspired by her to produce unique and creative work. Stay tuned to see what my creative juices and I produce. *laughs*
