Jan. 2006 I ran the Inaugural Goofy Challenge. What is it you ask? "Gwarsh" It's running a half marathon (13.1 miles) on Saturday, then getting up the next day and running the full marathon (26.2 miles).
Why did I do that? Hmmm...cuz I'm Goofy! "hyuck" :o)
Seriously though, I did it because originally I wanted a reason to go back to Disney World. I originally signed up to do just the full marathon...but THEN...they opened up this new thing called the Goofy Challenge. In doing both, you get the Mickey Mouse medal (for full marathon), Donald Duck medal (for half marathon), and the Goofy medal for doing both.
says on the back of the medal:
1 Half Marathon, 1 Marathon, 2 Days, 4 Theme Parks, 39.3 Miles!
Inaugural Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge
When I heard about it I just HAD to have the Goofy Medal...not seriously taking into consideration what that actually entailed. 31 miles later I took a breath and wondered "what in the world am I doing?!?!?!" I had some really yummy tasting oranges(which I still have yet to find) at mile 18 of the full marathon and got my second wind. It was the greatest moment of my entire life.
I must admit when I was on my last 4 miles...my eyes were filled with tears and I had to talk myself out of getting overly emotional because I STILL had 4 more miles to go. "Savitre, conserve your energy or I'll really give you something to cry about", I said to myself. *chuckles*
It was elation that helped me overcome the feeling of exhaustion.

Definitely TWO THUMBS UP!! :o)
I don't know how (maybe it was the Magic of Disney), but that was the fastest half and full marathon I had ever ran. Yippie! :o)
So, what's next for me?
Well, I've been inspired by another blog (Just Keep Goofin'), so today I just signed up for the Race for the Taste 10K and Expedition Everest Challenge. *patting myself on the back*
I know a lot of people probably think that because I've ran marathons before, it should not be a problem to do a 10K or any other race...actually, that's what I thought. However, the last time I stepped on a treadmill to do 3 miles, I was convinced that the treadmill technology has changed and 3 miles was now created to be a lot farther.
Since the weather has been really crummy in Chicago, it's hard to get a run outside...which is where I find most of my comfort in running. I'm hoping that Orlando will help me out in that respect. Because I'm the queen of procrastination (plus I have 3 more days of Wilton and one week left to pack), I will enjoy my days of slothing and wait to start running again when I get to Florida.
Join me as my cheering section or curb crew to see how I do in more Disney races and if I could add more Disney medals to my collection!
GO RUNNER!!! *mentally motivating myself* hahahahah :o)
