Continuing where I left off...I currently live at home (I'm into the money saving thing and not wanting to pay any sort of rent/mortgage yet). I like it. It's just me, my mom, and my lil cairn terrier named Oakie :o) Oh how I'll miss him dearly while I'm in Orlando.
I would consider myself to be an adventurous person. I've done the sky diving, bungee jumping, marathon running thing...but I'm the baby of the family and never thought of going far from the nest and leaving my my mom all alone at home.
I am excited about attending Notter School of Pastry Arts, but I haven't quite found a home out there. I was there this past weekend to visit the school and looked into some apartments. I found a cute place in Metro West...but when I got back to Chicago I did some research on that area and found out that it was close to a crime filled area. I'm not sure what everyone's idea of "crime-filled" is because I live close to Chicago and know what "crime-filled" means.
Anyways, I told one of the administrative ladies at the school about the place I found and she said if I continued a little more up north it would be considered a shady area. She then offered for me to stay at her place.....SO SWEET!!!...if the entire faculty staff at the school is as nice as she is, they'll definitely make me feel at home in no time.
Needless to say, I do not plan on staying at her place because I couldn't imagine imposing like that..but the gesture was greatly appreciated.
Anyways, looking for a home in Orlando is my project for now. I think it's scary to do this blindly and not be able to visit the place or area before signing off on the move-in papers. Any suggestions/advice?
Until then, I have my hands tied with more classes coming up with Wilton. Last time I was there I also took the Advanced Sugar Pulling class with Laurie Bradach. She's sooooooooo funneeeee!!!
Here's what I created for our final cake project:
the rest of my class and their final cakes
first ribbon and bow I made out of sugar
Please don't laugh. It was my first attempt at pulled and blown sugar. I was pretty proud of myself. I can't wait to do more sugar work at Notter. Ewald Notter is known for his sugar work. (more to come about him when I begin my grueling 6mos. in Orlando)
The first class beginning this Monday is Gum Paste Flowers with Nicholas Lodge.
The second and third week is with Colette Peters. I'll tell you more about them too as soon as class begins.
3 Top Reasons for Going to Orlando:
1) Notter School of Pastry Arts
2) sunny Florida weather (minus the hurricane season...which I hear begins June1)
3) I get to run more Disney races while I'm out there..btw, I'm a HUGE Disney fan!
